Samsung is all set to unveil the Galaxy Note 9 phablet and a smartwatch at its event on August 9. Now, there have been reports that the next smartwatch will be called Galaxy Watch, and not the Gear S4. Reports also indicate that Samsung will ditch Tizen OS in favor of Wear OS. According to a report on SamMobile, the Gear S4 or Galaxy Watch, whatever Samsung chooses to call it, will come with Bixby support. However, unlike the top-end Galaxy smartphones, this won t feature the third button to invoke the voice assistant. Instead, users will be able to summon the assistant by saying Hi Bixby. Watch: Samsung Gear Sport and Fit Pro Hands-On
Bixby will replace the existing S Voice assistant that is present on Gear S3 and Gear Sport smartwatches. Currently, the hotword Hi Gear is used to summon the S Voice assistant. Last year, Samsung had unveiled Bixby 2.0 with which the company expects a paradigm shift in the IoT, connected space. The Bixby 2.0 is expected to be a part of the Galaxy Note 9, and it could also make way to the Samsung Smart Speaker which is expected to launch soon.
Besides the Galaxy Note 9, the Galaxy Tab S4 has also been leaked on a number of occasions. However, at the August 9 event, only the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Note 9 are expected, whereas the tablet and Bixby powered speaker could be unveiled later at IFA 2019 in Berlin, Germany.
