Samsung has not launched a new smartwatch in nearly two years with the company launching its Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch back in 2016. According to a new leak by noted leaker Ice Universe, Samsung is working on its next smartwatch and it may be known as the “Galaxy Watch”. The leaked posted possible details about the smartwatch in a tweet on their Twitter profile. One noteworthy information in the tweet is the fact that “Galaxy Watch” will run on Wear OS, Google‘s Android-based operating system that is meant to power wearable devices. This is a shift from Samsung’s strategy where it has been launching its in-house Tizen OS-based Gear smartwatches till now.

“Galaxy Watch” will come with a 470mAh batter along with something called as PLP package which is likely to be “Panel Level Package” and may refer to a smaller motherboard inside the device giving Samsung the chance to pack other hardware more newer features. It is likely that the company may opt for new UX interaction with the smartwatch instead of the usual rotating dial mechanism to interact with the Tizen OS-based smartwatches. The company will also add blood pressure measurement with the “Galaxy Watch” to focus on more health-related features and taking the competition to Apple Watch.

There are no additional details available about the device at this time including the potential pricing, additional features or even the launch date of “Galaxy Watch”. Samsung has not issued any statement regarding the leaked details about the rumored smartwatch.

It is possible that Samsung may launch the device along with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or the company may even push the announcement to a later date, possibly with the much anticipated foldable smartphone, the Galaxy X or the Samsung Galaxy S10 next year.
