As the Galaxy Note 9 launch is getting closer, rumor mills have started buzzing with expected features, leaked renders and more. A recent report hinted that Samsung’s next flagship Note-series smartphone will be launched on August 9 in New York.
Now, another report from Korea (courtesy of ET News) claims that Samsung will be launching the Gear S4 smartwatch alongside the Galaxy Note 9. This will be a change in launch strategy from Samsung considering that the previous two generations – the Gear S2 and Gear S3 were launched at IFA in Berlin.
Earlier this month, there were reports that Samsung employees were spotted wearing Gear smartwatches that ran on Android Wear OS. But a couple of days later another report stated that Samsung will continue using its Tizen OS platform for wearables.

Rumors hint that Samsung will be using Panel Level Packaging (PLP) to build the application processor (AP) for the Gear S4. Besides being cheaper, the process will also help Samsung to make the wearable thinner. It is also expected to pack in a larger battery compared to the Gear S3 for improved battery life. Reports also indicate that Samsung is commercially experimenting with new technologies starting with the new Gear smartwatch.
