Samsung has today announced a management shuffle in India, which sees HyunChil Hong taking over BD Park as the new managing director of Samsung India. Additionally, Hong will also lead Samsung’s business in South West Asia that includes India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. Prior to his appointment as the MD of Samsung India, Hong worked as the president for Samsung Electronics in Latin America for three years, and headed the company’s sales in Chile before that. The outgoing Park has been the managing director and president of South West Asia operations for the past six years. He will be relocating to Samsung’s headquarters in South Korea, and while the company hasn’t revealed his future designation, according to a report on Economic Times, he is set to become the global business head. The publication further reveals that Samsung India deputy managing director Ravinder Zutshi too is retiring from the company later this month. This is in line with the report, which surfaced online back in October when Chief Finance Officer Sunil Goel left the company after 17 long years.
Samsung’s smartphone business hasn’t had the best of years, and the company has been looking at making wholesale changes. With increased competition from local as well as international rivals, Samsung recently recorded a 60 percent drop in quarterly net profit compared to the year before. While earlier reports suggested that mobile chief JK Shin would lose his CEO position, he however survived the management shuffle.

Samsung Electronics Announces HyunChil Hong as the President of Southwest Asia Headquarters
NEW DELHI, INDIA – December 10, 2014 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital technologies, today announced the appointment of Mr. HyunChil Hong as President of Southwest Asia Headquarters, effective immediately.
In his new role based out of Gurgaon, India, Mr. Hong will lead all of Samsung Electronics’ business in South West Asia that includes India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, as Samsung further strengthens its leadership in the region.
Mr. Hong previously served as the President of Samsung Electronics Latin America, a sales subsidiary in Central America for three years. Prior to that, he successfully headed Samsung Electronics’ sales subsidiaries in Chile.
In his new role, Mr. Hong will leverage his experience in emerging business environment and operational excellence to continue to build Samsung Electronics’ success in the Southwest Asia region.
Mr. Hong replaces outgoing President Mr. BD Park, who will now head Sales & Marketing for Digital Appliances Business in HQ, Korea. Mr. Park has been serving in India since 2008, when he was appointed as Head of the Mobile and IT Division of Samsung India Electronics Ltd (SIEL). In 2012, he was elevated to the position of President & CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia. Under his leadership, Samsung has emerged as a clear leader in the mobile phones business. SIEL is also a leader in the appliances business in the country, and is among India’s top consumer products companies by revenue.
During his tenure, Mr. Park also leveraged Samsung’s legacy of technology innovation through philanthropic initiatives in India focused on helping communities lead healthier, smarter and more sustainable lives. Samsung India set up several Samsung Smart Classes in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country and also Samsung Technical Schools in collaboration with the MSME ministry and state governments.
