Samsung has announced the launch of two new Windows 10 laptops in Korea. The new Notebook 9 (2018) and Notebook 9 Pen are aimed at consumers looking for mobile computing experience both at work, and at home.
Samsung Notebook 9 (2018) features a clamshell design, and comes with options for 13.3-inch or a 15-inch displays. The notebook comes with Intel’s 8th generation Core i7 processor, and can be configured with up to 16GB DDR4 RAM, and up to 1TB NVMe solid state storage. The 13.3-inch screen variant comes standard with Intel HD graphics while the 15-inch model comes with optional 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics processor.
The port selection on the 13-inch model includes one USB Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port and microSD card slot. The 15-inch model offers a wider selection of port including a Thunderbolt 3.0 port, two USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, one HDMI port and microSD card slot. The notebook sports a unibody metal design and feature 720p HD front camera, backlit keyboard, precision trackpad, and a dedicated fingerprint sensor. The notebooks pack a 75Wh battery but Samsung is not sharing the standby time one can expect from the notebook.
Samsung Notebook 9 Pen, on the other hand, features a convertible form factor with magnesium aluminum chassis, and is lightweight at 1 kilogram. The notebook features a 360-degree hinge that allows for the notebook to be used in tablet mode or tent mode. It also supports S Pen with 4,096 levels of pressure to doodle or write down on the notebook. The S Pen has a 0.7mm tip so users can even use the screen as a sketchpad to draw illustrations.
As far as specifications are concerned, the Notebook 9 Pen features a 13.3-inch display with Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It is powered by 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor, and can be configured with up to 16GB DDR4 memory, and 512GB storage. It comes with Intel HD graphics and offers one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, one HDMI port, and microSD card slot. It also features a backlit keyboard and precision trackpad but offers a smaller 39Wh battery. In addition to fingerprint sensor, the Notebook 9 Pen also gets an IR camera for Windows Hello facial recognition.
Samsung says the Notebook 9 (2018) and Notebook 9 Pen will be available in Korea starting December and in the US from the first quarter of 2018. The notebooks will be displayed at CES 2018 next month.
