While the current-generation Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 boast near bezel-less Infinity Display, Samsung is clearly looking at things to the next level. The company is able to achieve the true bezel-less design by embedding the fingerprint sensor under the display. Similarly, the likes of the selfie camera, proximity sensors and the earpiece too will be embedded in the display.
Samsung is also likely to adopt a pressure-sensitive display similar to Apple s 3D Touch. Further, the on-screen buttons will also be able to have multiple functions. The patent mentions, When the home button is pressed a little deeper, the microphone will be activated. If the user presses even harder, a list of apps will appear.
While the patent application is in Korean, the report mentions that Samsung s technology will work on LCD, LED and OLED displays. This opens the possibility for Samsung to employ this technology across smartphones, televisions, and wearables too.
