Samsung became the world’s top mobile phone manufacturer largely due to its focus on Android and the success of its Galaxy line of smartphones. But that does not mean its loyalties are fully entrenched in Android. It makes Windows Phones devices as well, along with Bada. Last year it merged Bada with MeeGo and formed a new open OS Tizen. It even held a developer conference for Tizen and today Japan’s Daily Yomuiri claims that Samsung is going to release its first Tizen based smartphone in 2013.
According to the report, Samsung is working with DoCoMo, so this basically means the first Tizen phone could probably hit Japan before any other country. Tizen is a big bet on Samsung’s part. While, Android is the reason for Samsung’s success Google could start competing with it head-on after the Motorola acquisition. There are already reports that suggest Google is developing ‘the X-Phone’ with Motorola.
