Samsung smartphones will receive Android Oreo update by early 2018: Report

The first Samsung smartphones to receive Android Oreo update will be the Galaxy S8 duo, and the Galaxy Note 8.

Android users have almost gotten used to not receiving OS upgrades but things have been changing over the past year. Many smartphones are already in the process or confirmed to receive the latest Android Oreo update by the end of 2017. However, Samsung’s flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 duo and the Galaxy Note 8 will possibly run Android Nougat at least till early 2018. Google had announced its latest mobile OS, Android Oreo in August.

This information comes from a Samsung Turkey news portal discovered first by XDA Developers. The report states that Samsung has started working on the pilot version of Android Oreo for its smartphones, and that the company will release the stable version by early 2018. Although Samsung hasn’t specified which smartphones would receive the update first, it’s quite understandable that the Galaxy S8 duo and Galaxy Note 8 would be first in line.

Among the new features it will bring, the report notes that with Android Oreo apps will open faster on smartphones now. Android Oreo features like Background Execution Limit, Picture-in-Picture mode, new set of emojis, Notification Channels, and Autofill feature for login credentials will arrive on Samsung smartphones. Android Oreo is also said to bring a new “Night Mode” feature which will adjust the screen brightness to use the smartphone in the dark without hurting one’s eye. Samsung smartphones are already equipped with a “Blue light filter” option which reduces the blue light on their screen. With the official release of Android Oreo, Samsung had also announced the list of smartphones confirmed to receive the update. A timeline hadn’t been provided but now it seems clear that Samsung will start rolling out Android Oreo update by the start of 2018. Among the smartphones not receiving Android Oreo, some of them include the Galaxy On5, Galaxy On8, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy A8, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 4.
