He originally joined Samsung’s semiconductor business in 1983. Consequently, Dr. Park was made the Vice President of Samsung Electronics Semiconductor R&D centre in 2002. From here, he became the Senior Vice President and appointed head of the Manufacturing Operation Center at the Memory Division in February of 2009 and eventually joined the LCD division in July 2011.

Despite LCD sales of 22.7 trillion Won in 2011, Samsung suffered a 750 billion Won loss last year, which probably led to the spin off. Samsung has also integrated Samsung Mobile Display with Samsung Display and the primary mandate of Samsung Display is to focus on OLED technology. The company will maintain separate LCD and OLED divisions.
