Samsung boasts a handful of smartwatches and fitness bands in its product lineup, but they all sport either a rectangular or a square face. There is however a chance that the South Korean giant may break the monotony by unveiling a smartwatch with a round display, SamMobile reports.
The publication says that it has spotted a smartwatch with the codename SM-R720 and reference to “Orbis.” Their theory is that the ‘R’, in the alleged model number signifies a round body. It could be true since the said alphabet plays the same role in LG’s ‘G Watch R’ moniker. Also interestingly, the word “Orbis” could be a reference to Orbis Terrarum, which is considered to be the first true modern atlas. The maps had elliptical and round shapes.
The next interesting revelation from the report is the operating system this supposed smartwatch will run on. According to the report, Samsung has plans to ship the Orbis smartwatch with Tizen software. Tizen is Samsung’s homegrown operating system for mobile handsets. Earlier this month, Samsung also announced that it will be powering its next Smart TVs with Tizen OS on them.
