According to the report, the first smartwatches will start shipping around September 23 and will be offered in white, orange, gray and black color variants. A week later, Samsung will introduce a special white gold color variant, which could be aimed at specific markets. There’s always a chance that the dates will shift back or forth by a week or two, but the general time frame will remain the same. Rumors have pegged the Galaxy Gear to be a companion device, rather than a stand-alone device. It will have a square display, approximately 2.5-inches (320×320 pixels) display and will be powered by a dual-core processor and is also likely to have a camera on its strap.
It is expected to run on Android Jelly Bean and will use NFC and/or Bluetooth 4.0 LE to communicate with the phone. Once paired you will be able to surf the web, check emails and notifications from apps and make calls. A report has also claimed that it will also work as a fitness device and compete with the Nike Fuelband.
