Sennheiser has launched its Ambeo headset in India, priced at Rs 19,990. Ambeo is a 3D sound recording headset, which Sennheiser says can record sound just as your ears hear it. Thanks to its omnidirectional microphones, the headset can record audio keeping in account the direction and intensity of the sounds as well. This allows users to record realistic 3D audio for both professional and personal use.
While regular users can also purchase and use the Ambeo headset, the product is primarily meant for sound recording professionals and content creators. The Ambeo headset can be used while recording video, including 360-degree video clips that can be supported with 3D sound. The ability to record omnidirectional audio will boost the experience for viewers and content creators alike. The resulting binaural audio recordings can be heard through any stereo headphones, as the Ambeo headset will encode the sound in regular stereo.
While the headset does function as a regular pair of headphones, the actual technology behind it is in the microphones on the outer sides of the headset. It’s ideal for recording outdoors, where ambient sounds and details would need to be captured in all directions. The Sennheiser Ambeo comes with a Lightning connector for use with Apple iOS devices for the time being. The use of the connector ensures that the headset receives power for its functionality from the smartphone or tablet itself. Sennheiser has stated that it is working on an Android version that will be available at a later date.
As mentioned, the Sennheiser Ambeo also serves as a regular headset for audio and is equipped with active noise cancellation and a function it calls ‘situational awareness’. This allows you to quickly activate the microphones to hear ambient sound even with the headphones in place, for safe listening and use even in noisy environments. The Ambeo is available now through the Sennheiser e-store at en-in.sennheiser.com.
