At the moment there aren’t many devices in the market with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor. While Xiaomi and Samsung have launched their respective flagship smartphones with 835 SoC, Sharp has launched the Aquos R smartphone with the top-end processor. Sharp has also joined the league of growing smartphone companies with their own AIs as the Aquos R comes with an Emop AI. The smartphone is currently available in Japan. Other key details such as availability of the device outside Japan and price haven’t been revealed as yet. Besides the top-end processor and built-in AI, the Aquos R boasts of a ‘mirror finished’ all-metal body with an aluminum frame and comes in a Black color variant. Aquos R Features and Specifications
The Aquos R sports a 5.3 inch IGZO or WQHD display offering 2K resolution and is touted to be a display as good as on a modern television. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with Adreno 540 GPU.
The device has 4GB of RAM and offers 64GB of storage onboard. The Aquos R also features a fingerprint scanner on the front-panel. The smartphone runs on Android Nougat 7.1. Also, the Japanese smartphone maker has introduced their AI based digital assistant called Emop which can be accessed via voice command. The digital assistant on Aquos R activates over saying ‘Hello Emop’.
In the camera department, the device offers a 22.6-megapixel camera sensor on the rear with LED flash, OIS, high-speed autofocus and f/1.9 aperture. For the selfie lovers, it has a 16.3-megapixel wide-angle snapper on the front. ALSO READ: Sharp unveils a robot-cum-smartphone that can dance
The Aquos R packs a 3,160mAh battery underneath with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The handset also comes with a charging dock called ROBOKOKU. Much like the name, ROBOKOKU boasts of few futuristic features like a robot. The charging dock when connected to the smartphone, it rotates itself and scan for owner’s face to alert of notification and answer incoming calls.
