Sharp has announced the all new Aquos R2 Compact flagship phone in Japan. It has a unique appeal since its display with dual notches. The Aquos R2 Compact from Sharp is a lightweight phone since it weighs only 135 grams. The rear panel of the smartphone is made out acrylic and it features a durable aluminum frame with diamond-cut design. It is a dustproof and water-resistant smartphone. The handset measures 131 x 64 x 9.3mm and houses a 5.2-inch display that features a round-shaped notch at the top. The predecessor Aquos R Compact from last year measured 132 x 66. x 9.6mm and featured a smaller 4.9-inch display. Compared to the predecessor phone that featured a very thick chin, the R2 Aquos has a thin lower bezel and a second notch to house the home button.
Sharp Aquos R2 Compact price and availability
The pricing of the Sharp Aquos R2 Compact is not available yet, but its sales are confirmed to begin by mid-January. The handset will be exclusively available for purchase in Japan. The three color variants of the smartphone are Smoky Green, Deep White and Pure Black.
Sharp Aquos R2 Compact specifications and features
The IGZO display of the Aquos R2 Compact supports FHD+ resolution. It is an HDR 10 complaint screen that supports 120Hz refresh rate which promises smoother UI and gaming experience. The display of the smartphone is shielded by a layer of Gorilla Glass 3. The capacitive home button is integrated with a fingerprint scanner.
The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact is powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset and 4GB of LPDDRX RAM. The native storage of the smartphone is 64GB. The external storage slot of the phone supports up to 512GB of microSD card. The latest Android 9 Pie OS is available preinstalled on the device. The Japanese manufacturer has included its own version of EMOPA AI voice-assistant on the R2 Aquos Compact.
For capturing selfies, the phone is equipped with an f/2.2 aperture 8-megapixel front camera. The selfie camera is equipped with features like face beauty, bokeh effect, customizable backgrounds, and screen flash. The 22.6-megapixel f/1.9 aperture rear-facing camera is equipped with an LED flash. The ProPix image enhancing engine can improve the quality of the images by regulating exposure and white balance. The rear camera also carries support for Optical Image Stabilization, Electronic Image Stabilization and AI Scene Recognition.
The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact is packed with a 2,500mAh battery that supports USB-PD rapid charging. The other features of the smartphone are 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and 3.5mm audio jack.
