Sharp has silently listed a smartphone with notch similar to that of Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone on China’s JD.com. With the launch of Essential Phone and iPhone X, the smartphone industry was widely believed to follow the design language of these two models. Oppo, Vivo and Asus have already followed on the footsteps of iPhone X but Sharp is going for a more subtle look with its Essential Phone style notch. Sharp Aquos S3 specifications and features
The Sharp Aquos S3 features a 5.5-inch InCell display with a resolution of 2040 x 1080 pixels. It does not feature an edge-to-edge display design often seen with smartphones featuring the notch but has a front-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Sharp Aquos S3 has a screen-to-body ratio of 87.5 percent, which is higher than most other smartphones in this segment.
The device pictures listed on the retailer’s website show it is thicker than and has thin bezels surrounding the display. The display is listed to support 135 percent of sRGB color gamut and has an aspect ratio of 17:9, which is unconventional.
Powering the device is Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM and native 64GB of storage. It also supports expandable storage via microSD card slot. It features a single 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture while the notch is home to a 20-megapixel selfie shooter with support for AI portrait mode.
The Aquos S3 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Sharp’s Smile UX on top. It also supports Face Unlock feature, which Sharp claims can be used to unlock in just 0.1 seconds. The smartphone uses USB Type-C port for charging and supports WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G VoLTE, GPS and 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphone is now up for pre-order and will be available for purchase starting March 30.
