Shazam has partnered with Saavn to provide better discovery of content by local artists. With this partnership, users will be able to identify and discover tracks from a gamut of South Asian artists that will include musical genres like bhangra, Bollywood, devotional, ghazals, carnatic, and IndiPop in a multitude of languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri and Telegu.

An additional benefit of the new partnership is that users can not only easily identify the track they are listening to but can now also quickly find it on the iTunes store to purchase it. As of this week, Saavn’s library has been mapped out on Shazam and users will be able to easily share the music they are listening to on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

Shazam is a popular music identification engine that helps users identify songs. Apart from Saavn, it has previously tied up with Airtel in India and competes with applications like SoundHound. As of now, only Saavn has the privilege of Shazam integration, it would be interesting to see if other Indian streaming services like Dhingana and Gaana.com tie up with Shazam or its rival SoundHound to provide a better song identification mechanism.
