Slated, a new keyboard app for iOS 8, aims at making it easy for people to chat with others in a range of languages by offering real-time translations in as many as 81 languages. Slated supports 81 languages including Hindi and several regional languages like Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu at launch. While we already have quite a few apps that offer similar functionality, Slated s user interface seems to be most appealing. It resembles iOS stock keyboard, and replaces the text prediction feature with translated results. Also Read - Top smartphone deals on Amazon Prime Day sale: Mi 11X, iPhone 11 and more
The app lets users decide the language they want to convert their input texts into and then displays the translated version of your text below. The app offers two-way translation, so you can also understand what the other person is saying. You are required to tap, hold and copy the text you want to convert, and a small bar below the text entry bar will show its translation. The app claims that it also works with SMS and instant messaging services including SMS, iMessage, WeChat, KakaoTalk, Kik, WhatsApp, Line, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Skype, or any other app for that matter which uses a keyboard.
Many companies, including Google, also offer this feature, but haven’t really succeeded in it, so it will be interesting to see how accurate and fast Slated is. Microsoft also offers a similar feature with its Bing app where it converts the words and signs documented in a photo you have taken into your preferred language. The company also offers two-way Skype video translation.
The Slated-Translation Keyboard costs $4.99 but is available at a discounted price of $2.99 for a limited time. It supports both iPhone and iPad. In order to enable this keyboard, you will have to go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards. Then add a new keyboard, and choose Translation – Slated and enable Full Access.
