While September’s biggest smartphone launch has undoubtedly been the three new Apple iPhones, October will focus more squarely on Android. A number of smartphone manufacturers are scheduled to unveil their products during October 2018, with products in various price and product ranges. So if you’re looking to buy a new Android smartphone, we suggest you hold off for a month and get something brand new.

We’ve put together a list of all the big launches expected in October 2018, with key products from Google, OnePlus, Huawei, Samsung, LG and Razer in the works. Here are the top smartphones to expect in the coming month.

LG V40 ThinQ – October 4

LG may not necessarily be at the top of everyone’s list when thinking of options for a new smartphone, but the company does have a loyal fan base, particularly for its focus on audio quality on its devices and its dedication to the 3.5mm jack. The LG V-series is a favorite among LG fans, and the latest version – the LG V40 ThinQ – is coming on October 4.

The phone is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, along with a notched display and a triple-camera setup. And LG will likely also offer a 3.5mm jack and a good in-built DAC on it as well.

Google Pixel 3 series – October 9

Widely considered the epitome of what an Android phone should be, the Google Pixel series replaced the erstwhile Nexus line-up two years ago. Now with its third iteration coming, the Pixel 3 series will sport Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, a notched display, and the same highly-rated camera as before. The phones will be launched on October 9.

As has been the case for the last two versions, the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will have size as a primary difference. However, based on reports, it’s possible that the more affordable Pixel 3 could sport mid-range hardware in order to bring the price down, while the Pixel 3 XL will sport a large notched screen and be a top-end flagship device to take on the new iPhone XS and XS Max.

Razer Phone 2 – October 10

Last year, gaming specialist Razer got into the business of smartphones with the Razer Phone. Built for gaming, it’s still considered among the best options available, although the fact that it runs the now-dated Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC has weighed against it. Smartphone gaming enthusiasts now have the Razer Phone 2 to look forward to, with the launch date set for October 10.

The Razer Phone 2 is likely to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and 8GB of RAM, and will come with the same signature feature as the last time: a 120Hz refresh rate on the display.

Samsung unidentified device – October 11

Although Samsung has already posted a teaser for its upcoming event on October 11, there’s no word on what the company intends to launch. The teaser says ‘4X fun’, which could mean that its coming phone will sport four cameras – a dual-camera setup at both the front and back. Alternatively, it could be a smartphone with 4X optical zoom.

There’s no firm word on what to expect, but it’s likely that Samsung will launch a new A-series device. If this is the case, it could be the Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro, which is slated to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC. The A-series from Samsung sits just below the flagship S-series, offering key features and specifications, but at a significantly lower price than Samsung’s flagships.

Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro – October 16

The first smartphone from Huawei to sport the HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC are slated to arrive on October 16. The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are being touted as the company’s most advanced phones ever, and the higher-end variant could come with a triple-camera setup at the rear, like the Huawei P20 Pro.

It’s also likely that Huawei will be launching the phones in India, given the renewed strategy that sees it increasing its presence in the country. Huawei also launched its Nova 3 and 3i in India recently.

OnePlus 6T – October 17 (tentative)

We don’t have confirmation on this yet, since OnePlus hasn’t sent out invites for any events regarding the launch, hence the ‘tentative’ tag on the October 17 launch date. However, it’s all but confirmed that the new OnePlus 6T will be coming in October, and will sport a waterdrop notch at the top of the display, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

In terms of specifications, the phone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and will likely come with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.
