The first big update is dubbed as World Effects and it adds snazzy animations and color schemes to the maps. According to The Verge, it will send you and your friends a blast of confetti on your birthdays. The themed maps will also be rolled out for particular holidays and “cultural events.” The platform will turn landmasses pink and fluffy on maps that are opened around Valentine’s Day. Interestingly, Snap plans to do the same with maps during Halloween with a more ‘ghoulish’ color scheme. Also Read - Top 5 free Android apps on Google Play store this week
The second update announced by the company is called Weather Effects which will add animations based on the weather where the Snapchat user is. In case a user is stuck outside on a particularly rainy or snowy day, they will be able to open their Map and see their avatar stuck in the same situation by zooming into the map. Snap also plans to add more holiday-themed maps on Snap Maps in the coming days.
While the company did not share exact timeline for the rollout of these new features, Snapchat says it is “coming soon.” Snap Maps are a new element to the overall Snapchat experience and it recently started pushing out breaking news experience and events from around the world in real time.
