Snapchat just expanded the prospect of its AR Masks by letting anyone create their own masks in Snap Lens Studio, which was first introduced last December. Snapchat earlier only allowed artists and developers create AR masks on Lens Studio. Users can now even add GIFs to their custom lenses all thanks to Giphy integration by Snapchat.
With this update a bunch of new templates have been introduced in Snap Lens Studio, which can be used for facial recognition and placement of the elements on the mask. Lens Studio was introduced initially keeping developers and graphic artists in mind who were familiar with their way around 3D masks and layers. But the “Create Your Lens” feature is much simpler to use, and made easy for users without 3D design experience. The platform has expanded to include AR masks, like baseball caps and face painting.
And for the people who just want to use the masks that are being created, Snapchat has added the option to add public filters to Our Story which can be discovered everyone. When a person is viewing another’s Story people can swipe up to get access to the custom filter.
Snap Studio which was launched in December 2017, has seen 30,000 Lenses submitted by artists around the world. Snapchat also introduced the Official Creator Program, which as reported by The Verge, is a feature for the top creators on the social media platform. This feature will let them unlock new features along with additional promotion and support before anyone else.
