When Snapchat rolled out its all new redesign last year, there was a lot of backlash from users across the globe. Users were upset over a number of things in the new design such as increased difficulty in finding friends story, and re-watching the Stories. The design change brought all messages and Stories from friends to the left of the camera, while the right side got a revamped Discover section combining content from big celebrities, news publications, professional creators, and social media stars among others. The backlash was so strong that over 1.2 million people signed a Change.org petition to get Snapchat to roll back the changes, to which Snapchat acknowledged by saying “we hear you”. Also Read - Apple Music Lossless, Spatial Audio features with Dolby Atmos coming soon to India
In April, there were reports on a ‘redesign to the redesign’ but for a small group of users in testing, which in fact started rolling out to most iOS users later in May, but there was no update for Android users. Now, BGR India has learnt that Snapchat for Android seems to be getting the new design as well. The company is seen pushing out a Story notification to Android app users saying “Dear Snapchatters, Stories from friends are back on the right!” Also Read - Google announces six new Android features, which will roll out this year
We have received the update where in the re-revamped Discover section now adds stories on top from friends. Now, you just need to swipe from left to right (which is right side of the camera where the Stories earlier used to be), and your Stories will appear on top the other content creators separately. Now even if you have watched a friends story, it will still be available on the top until timed-out/disappears.
The changes are from server-side, so the app update won’t get you these changes right away. It appears that Snapchat will be pushing a notification to users before they get the re-design. We suggest you keep the app updated.
Snap Inc, with the latest redesign, is going back to basics as its ambitious design change didn’t bring about the expected change in fortunes. As per CNN report, the company’s user growth was stagnant after the redesign backlash, which was supposed to attract new users.
Snapchat had 191 million daily active users during the Q1, 2018, which was just a two percent increase from 187 million daily active users in Q4, 2017. While revenues jumped 54 percent to $230.7 million, it was still below analysts’ expectations, and as a result, Snap Inc stock fell more than 15 percent in after hours trading.
