Tables have turned, and Snapchat s the blatant cheater this time! Remember in the beginning of this year Instagram added GIF stickers to the Stories? Well, Snapchat has too rolled out a new feature, which does exactly that. Sourced from Giphy, the new feature allows users to add GIFs to their Snapchat stories. Although we blame Snapchat for cloning Instagram, these GIFs in stories are only the best thing ever, so we don t exactly mind it so much. As pointed out by TechCrunch, these GIFs are loaded in the Sticker Picker alongside existing options of bitmojis and other emoticons from Snapchat. The update has started to rollout for both iOS and Android users, however, it is phased so not everybody may have the feature on the app right away. Expect it by end of this week though. In addition to the GIFs, Snapchat is also adding tabs to both the Friends and the Discover screens within the app, which will make it easier for users on the platform to follow along with the Stories they want to see whenever they want to see them, letting you do things like viewing friends with active stories and Group Chats in one tab, and subscriptions you maintain in the other.
A couple of weeks ago, Snapchat woke up to a flood of netizens criticizing the platform for a design change it had introduced. Snapchat had proudly announced this change late last year, and was hoping that the UI refresh will help it not only retain its users, but help it attract some new ones over. But that didn t quite seem to happen. People have been angry with the re-design.
However, speaking at Goldman Sach s Internet and Technology conference in San Francisco, Evan Spiegel acknowledged that it will take time for people to adjust”, but said he s been very happy with the reaction to the redesign even the negative ones.
The move to add GIFs to stories at this point seems a pretty smart move. Despite the numerous attractions on Instagram, there is no denying that Snapchat aces with its variety of sticker, now GIFs, and the bitmoji being on its side.
