Snapchat parent company Snap Inc has launched a new version of its Spectacles. Priced at $150, the new glasses aim to fix a lot of the issues with the original product, making it more user-friendly and stylish. The first Spectacles were launched on November 2017 through limited availability, and went on sale online in February 2017. The sunglasses may seem ordinary at first, but come with two cameras that allow video recording for sharing on the Snapchat social media platform.
The approach to the Spectacles V2 is fairly simple; press once to record a 10-second video, press again to keep recording up to 30 seconds, and press and hold for a photo. The product is simply a pair of sunglasses with a camera built into it, and it is possible to export the clips to the phone’s gallery or post directly to Snapchat. The captures are in circular format, and offer a unique first-person perspective thanks to the position of the camera close to your eyes.
You also get a charging and storage case for the Spectacles, and Snap claims that the smart glasses will capture up to 70 videos on a single charge and recharge four times over with the battery backup in the case. The Spectacles are compatible with iOS 10 and Android 4.4 and above, functioning using Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth Low-Energy. The product comes in just one size, and it’s possible to fit prescription lenses on as well, although that would need to be done post-purchase.

While initially considered a niche product because of its limited usability with only Snapchat and its sketchy availability, the new version of the Spectacles could drive better adoption. The product is available now in US, Canada, France and UK by ordering on spectacles.com, while wider availability will begin on May 3.
