Sony announces price cut on six Xperia smartphones, flagship XZ Premium and XZ1 discounted by Rs 10,000

Unfortunately, Sony's smartphones seem too expensive for this competitive market.

Sony has introduced a permanent price cut on six of its smartphones ahead of the Diwali festive season. The company has announced price cut for the Sony Xperia R1, Xperia R1 Plus, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Plus, Xperia XZ1 and the Xperia XZ Premium. As part of this price cut, there is a discount of as much as Rs 10,000 on the top-end devices.

According to media reports, the price cut is now effective across Sony‘s online and offline partners in India. The Sony Xperia R1, which was launched at Rs 12,990, will now be available at a reduced price of Rs 7,990. This is the second price cut on the smartphone after it was discounted to Rs 9,990 from its launch price. The Xperia R1 Plus has also been discounted and will now retail for Rs 10,990, which is down from its previous retail price of Rs 12,990.

To recall, Sony Xperia R1 was launched in October last year and it differs from Xperia R1 Plus mainly in terms of memory and storage. The Xperia R1 and R1 Plus feature a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 16:9 aspect ratio. Both the phones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC with Xperia R1 offering 2GB RAM, 16GB storage while Xperia R1 Plus has 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.

The Xperia XA1 can now be purchased for Rs 12,990, which is down from its previous retail price of Rs 17,990. The Xperia XA1 Plus is also being discounted to Rs 14,990 from its previous retail price of Rs 19,990. The biggest disocunt, however, is being offered on Sony’s premium Xperia smartphones.

The Xperia XA1 series was launched more than a year ago in April 2017 and the Xperia XA1 and XA1 Plus differ in terms of display size and memory. The Xperia XA1 has a 5-inch display while the Xperia XA1 Plus has a larger 5.5-inch display. Both the devices are powered by MediaTek Helio P20 SoC with 3GB RAM on Xperia XA1 and 4GB on XA1 Plus. They both feature a 23-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.

The Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ Premium have received a discount of Rs 10,000 from their launch price in India. The Xperia XZ1 is now available at a revised price tag of Rs 34,990, which is lower than its launch price of Rs 44,990. The Xperia XZ Premium, on the other hand, is now available for discounted price of Rs 39,990, which is lower than its previous best buy price of Rs 49,990.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium was launched in June last year and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage, a 5.5-inch 4K LCD display, 19-megapixel main camera, 13-megapixel front camera and 3,230mAh battery. The Xperia XZ1 was launched in September 2017 and it comes with features like 5.2-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 835, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and 2700mAh battery.
