The new models have built-in lithium-ion battery, delivering up to 18 hours of music playback and the Quick Charge function delivers 90 minutes of music with a three-minute charge. The NWZ-B170 Series comes with four color choices – Pink, Gold, Black and Red, a detachable clip and a new color-matching power illuminator, which flashes in sync with the rhythm of the music. As far as music management goes users will have access to the file system enabling drag and drop management of music via Windows Explorer or the Finder in a Mac. Sony is touting a new ZAPPIN technology which makes searching for music easier. The Walkman will offer two storage varieties with the 4GB model costing an MRP of Rs 3,990 and the 2GB model costing a MRP of Rs 2,990. On the whole this seems like an iterative update and features no ground breaking features. One can expect the iPod nano to reign supreme, however it should be noted that over the past few generations of the iPod there has been no upgrade in terms of sound quality and Sony’s Walkmans offer better value to sound junkies, however this comes at the cost of Apple’s legendary industrial design, usability and also seamless vertically integrated music management solutions.
