Sony announced through its official blog that it will stop offering the free games starting March 8, 2019. The company said that the monthly lineup “will focus on PS4 titles and no longer include PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita titles.” A PlayStation representative told Polygon that Sony will continue to offer two PS4 games per month and no other free titles.
Nothing else about the subscription will change, including the terms of the arrangement, benefits of subscription, and access to PlayStation Plus titles which are already added to players’ library. Any games which players have already avail through the subscription will continue to be accessible as long as they continue to use the PlayStation Plus service.
Defending its decision, the company said that many of the PlayStation fans are playing on the PS4 platform, with majority playing in homes around the world. Sony further said that it will continue to prioritize benefits to players through its PlayStation Plus membership. This will include online multiplayer, online game save storage, PS4 monthly games, and exclusive PlayStation Store discounts across content and network services.
To compensate for the change in freebie offerings, Sony is offering a lineup of PlayStation Plus games for March 2018 at no cost. These include Bloodborne and the rebooted Ratchet and Clank as this month s free games. The subscription charges, however, remain the same at $59.99 for a year of service.
