The Xperia Z has turned out to be a pretty successful smartphone for Sony globally. It meshes the best Sony has to offer, but even as our review points out the best of Sony is not really the best that one can get, it’s good value nonetheless. That said, Sony is really looking for integrating some of the company’s best technologies in a smartphone under its “One Sony” motto. And for this Sony is apparently readying smartphones with its Cyber-shot and Walkman branding for Q3, if a report by PhoneArena is to be believed. Apparently, there will be three different smartphones. One will be a 5-inch phablet with the Cyber-shot branding and it will have a sensor that will rival the Nokia PureView 808 in size and will also boast Carl Zeiss optics. That said, unlike the Nokia phone, it will be pretty slim. Also Read - PlayStation 5 going on a diet? Retailer leaks lightweight PS5 in works
Additionally, there will be another smartphone with Walkman branding that will integrate an amplifier chip similar to what HTC has been doing with its Beats branded smartphones. Also Read - Xbox Series X/S could get PlayStation 5 inspired controller upgrade in future
Lastly, there will be another smartphone that will come with the Cyber-shot branding, but will compete head-on with the iPhone in terms of form-factor. However, this phone will more or less have identical specs to the 5-inch Cyber-shot branded smartphone.
While this is not the first time Sony has leveraged its Cyber-shot and Walkman brands for its mobility division as back in the day Sony Ericsson used to make Walkman/Cyber-shot branded Symbian and Java phones, but this will be the first time since its switch to Android that the iconic brands will make a full return to Sony smartphones.
Apart from this, Sony is also expected to launch the Xperia A, UL and Toogari smartphones in Q3.
