To bolster its wearable line-up, Sony announced the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk in India today, alongside the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact smartphones at an event in Delhi. The two wearable devices are slated to hit the market in December. and the pricing is not yet revealed. The SmartWatch 3 has a 1.6-inch 320 320 pixel LCD display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor paired with 512MB RAM. Also featured are 4GB of internal storage, 420mAh battery and connectivity options like NFC and Bluetooth 4.0. The wearable device also has a built-in microphone, accelerometer, compass, Gyro and GPS sensor. Unlike Sony s earlier smartwatches, the SmartWatch 3 is based on Google s Android Wear platform that is dedicated for wearable devices. LG, Samsung and Asus have already released smartwatches running on Android Wear and the much awaited Moto 360 is already listed on Flipkart.
The SmartBand Talk, on the other hand, is essentially an upgrade to the SmartBand SWR10. The fitness tracker records various fitness and health-related activities. Unlike its predecessor, the SmartBand Talk will also support voice calling when paired with a smartphone. It features a 1.4-inch e-ink display, a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 processor, 2MB of internal flash memory, a 70mAh battery, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and microUSB support. The device is also IP68 waterproof and dustproof certified, and is compatible with Android devices running on KitKat.
