Sony has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for its Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus smartphones. The company confirmed the same in a tweet it posted late last week. The two Xperia smartphones were launched back in October 2017 specifically for the Indian market. The Oreo update was promised for the smartphones, at the time of launch itself. The Android Oreo update brings several changes to the smartphones. The changes include Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, Notification dots, Smart Autofill, redesigned Quick Settings menu, and faster boot time. There are also the usual bevy of bug fixes and system improvements. The update also brings a relatively new Android security patch to smartphones. Additionally, according to PhoneArena, the Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus will also get features such as Xperia actions, which is an intelligent service that suggests actions based on interaction with games on the phone, contextual menus for app shortcuts, reminders for unfinished emails and messages, and more. Unfortunately, since the update started to rollout last week, some users have reported issues like app crashes and touch unresponsiveness. Sony Xperia R1, Xperia R1 Plus specifications and features
The Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus feature a 5.2-inch HD (720p) display. The smartphones are powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor. The two devices differ on the basis of RAM and internal storage. The Xperia R1 has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while the Xperia R1 Plus comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.
In the photography department, the smartphones sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor sensor. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel camera. The rear and front cameras support up to ISO 3200 for photos, and ISO 2400 for videos.
Both the Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus are fueled by a 2,260mAh battery. Connectivity options available include dual-SIM and 4G VoLTE support, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, and USB Type-C for charging and data transfers.
