Sony has quietly launched two new smartphones in India, the Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus. The Xperia R1 is priced at Rs 12,990, while the R1 Plus will retail at Rs 14,990. Both the smartphones will be available for purchase starting November 10 across Sony Centers and major retail stores. The smartphones will also be available online via Amazon India and Flipkart. Sporting the same design in black and silver color options, the Xperia R1 and R1 Plus differ only in terms of RAM and storage. The Xperia R1 has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the Xperia R1 Plus comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. Also on offer is expandable storage option up to 128GB via a microSD card on both the smartphones. Also, Sony has confirmed the Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade on both the smartphones, although the software out-of-the-box is Android Nougat.
Sony Xperia R1, Xperia R1 Plus specifications
The Xperia R1, R1 Plus feature a 5.2-inch HD (720p) display. The smartphones are powered by the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor. In the photography department, the smartphones sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor sensor, LED flash, autofocus and digital zoom up to 8x. Up front, the smartphones house an 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling. The rear and front cameras support up to ISO 3200 for photos and ISO 2400 for videos. Both the Xperia R1 and R1 Plus are fueled by a 2,260mAh battery. On the software front, the smartphones run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. Connectivity options available include dual-SIM and 4G VoLTE support, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, and USB Type-C for charging and data transfers. The smartphones also offer Uplink Data Compression (UDC) which speeds up web page downloading by 50 percent. The Xperia R1 and R1 Plus are also “4G Broadcast Ready” which Sony says will give better experience of live event streaming, real-time streaming and firmware file delivery.
