It looks like widescreen aspect ratios are likely the big trend this year as suggested by another smartphone leak. Sony’s line of Xperia smartphones is expected to get an addition in the form of the X Ultra. Now, based on fresh leaks, the smartphone is likely to boast an aspect ratio larger than the current phablet screen ratios of LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8. The upcoming Sony Xperia X Ultra is speculated to feature a 6.45-inch display panel with an aspect ratio of 21:9. To put into perspective, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the LG G6 have an aspect ratio of close to 18:9. With this, the purported Xperia X Ultra is undoubtedly going to have quite a dominating display panel. Based on the information revealed by MobileXpose, the Sony Xperia X Ultra will feature an almost bezel-less display, with the standard volume buttons and the camera shutter on the edge of the phone. Leaked renders of the smartphone suggest that it will feature a set of dual speakers. Color options are expected to be Red and Grey.

Talking about the specifications, the smartphone is likely to be powered by the yet-to-be-official Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC under the hood, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Key highlights of the new chipset are that it is built on the 14nm process and is said to be aimed at mid-range smartphones. It is further said to support X10 LTE and QuickCharge 4.0. With this, one can expect the Sony Xperia X Ultra to also support the newer fast charging capabilities with its 3,050mAh battery.

As is the case with other smartphones in Sony’s Xperia range, the Xperia X Ultra is also expected to focus on camera prowess. It is speculated that the smartphone will be equipped with a 19-megapixel rear camera along with a 13-megapixel front camera. It is further said to run the newer Android 7.0 Nougat OS with Sony’s custom skin layered above. Other features include a possible inclusion of IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

With the Xperia X Ultra, Sony might be joining the bandwagon of large screen phones but given the company’s history of not pricing its smartphones aggressively might prove to be a hindrance this time around as well. However, if these leaks are to be believed, the smartphone will feature a chipset which is aimed at mid-range smartphones. As of now, there are no hints about the pricing and launch details of the Sony Xperia X Ultra.
