Sony has launched Xperia XA2 Plus at a product launch event in Taiwan. The smartphone sticks with the design language seen on some of the new Sony smartphones, and it features both a large display and a thin bezels around it.

Sony Xperia XA2 Plus specifications, features

The Xperia XA2 Plus is a smartphone powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC based on 14nm process with a maximum clock frequency of 2.2GHz. It comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. At the front, there is a 6-inch display with Full HD+ resolution of 2160×1080 pixels, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and image enhancement support. The display supports taller 18:9 aspect ratio, and comes in three different colors: thermal green, gold and pure black.

Sony’s image sensors sit at the heart of almost every mainstream smartphone camera. With Xperia XA2 Plus, Sony has equipped the smartphone with a 23-megapixel main camera that supports scene recognition AI and can recognize up to 52 smart scenes. The feature sounds similar to what Samsung and Huawei have tried with their newest flagship devices.

The front camera, seems like an afterthought, with a modest 8-megapixel sensor with narrower f/2.4 aperture. The Xperia XA2 Plus measures 157x75x9.6mm in dimensions, and it weighs around 205 grams. The smartphone is backed by a 3,580mAh battery, and comes with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Sony has also added its own battery management features that can enhance the battery life.

The Xperia XA2 Plus is offered in two storage variants: 4GB RAM variant with 32GB of storage and a 6GB RAM model with 64GB storage and support for expandable storage up to 400GB via hybrid SD card slot. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo, supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4G LTE, and has option for single or dual-SIM variants.

Sony Xperia XA2 Plus price

Sony Xperia XA2 Plus is priced at NT$15,990 in Taiwan. The price translates to around Rs 36,500 in India, which definitely makes it an overpriced smartphone. Sony has been trying to stay relevant in the smartphone business with its Xperia XZ and Xperia XA series, but Chinese companies has forced the company to concede. Former CEO Kaz Hirai had once said that Sony is making smartphones only to stay informed about new technology developments.
