Sony had announced the list of its Xperia smartphones confirmed to receive Android 8.0 Oreo update. The first in line is the Xperia XZ Premium, which has now started receiving Android Oreo update in a phased manner. The smartphone was first unveiled at MWC 2017 earlier this year running on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. In India, the smartphone was launched in June, priced at Rs 59,990. If you own an Xperia XZ Premium, you should receive a notification for the Android Oreo update. If you haven’t then you can manually check under the Settings menu. Since it is a phased rollout, the update will take time to reach some regions. In addition to receiving Android Oreo features, Xperia XZ Premium will also get other exclusive Sony features. Sony’s 3D Creator which was first introduced on the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact will arrive on the Xperia XZ Premium as well.
The 3D Creator allows you to scan your face, head, food, or any other object and render it as a 3D avatar in 60 seconds. You can also share the 3D image on social image, or get it printed. Predictive Capture which buffers images when the smartphone detects a smile lets you pick from a series of up to four photos. More features arriving with Android Oreo include Autofocus burst, and Qualcomm HD audio support for wireless headphones, and app shortcuts. To recall, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium features a 5.5-inch 4K HDR display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. At the heart of the smartphone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. For photography, the Xperia XZ Premium features a 19-megapixel rear Motion Eye camera with 5-axis stabilization, predictive hybrid auto-focus and support for 4K video recording.
