We have long been hearing Sony working on the Xperia XZ2, which is widely expected to be launched at MWC 2018 later this month. However, Sony has been keeping mum about the whole thing, with not a word of confirmation about the device. But, it looks like Sony shared its secret plans with Ireland’s network provider Three Ireland, and they accidentally blabbed on them. First noticed by Xperia Blog, in response to a user’s query on its Twitter page, asking about the network’s support for Xperia XA 2 smartphones, Three Ireland accidentally revealed that it will be ranging the Xperia XZ2, “which will be coming soon”. This news follows a report by MyBroadband.co.za who spoke to Christian Haghofer, Sony Mobile’s South Africa manager, who appeared to confirm that the Xperia XZ successor will come with a dual-camera setup and is set to launch at MWC. “We are also very excited to announce our Xperia XZ Premium successor at Mobile World Congress this year. Dual cameras are tipped to become the norm for many flagship phones,” said Haghofer.
From what the rumors so far suggest, the Sony Xperia XZ2 can be expected to run the new Snapdragon 845 chipset. It has also been speculated that the smartphone will be equipped with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage, and will have an an IP65/68 rating, making it water and dust resistant.
It is also been rumored that the Xperia XZ2 will feature a 5.48-inch Full HD HDR Triluminos display with X-Reality image processing and a screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The document reveals that the phone could come with two 12-megapixel camera sensors at the back, and a 15-megapixel camera at the front with an f/2.0 aperture.
The device is expected to run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, and will be powered by a 3,130mAh battery, which will also support Quick Charge.
