Sony Xperia XZ3, the next flagship smartphone from the Japanese smartphone maker, is set to launch at IFA 2018 later this month. The smartphone will be the successor to Xperia XZ2, which was revealed at Mobile World Congress in February. Sony has lost out to Chinese smartphone makers but it is continuing to churn out smartphones on six-month cycle.

The leaked picture of Sony Xperia XZ3 obtained by MySmartPrice reveals that the smartphone will look similar to the Xperia XZ2 Premium. The Xperia XZ2 Premium was announced earlier as company’s first device to offer dual rear camera setup. The Xperia XZ2 Premium was a major redesign from older Xperia smartphones but it was not received well by critics. The smartphone had a slippery back and the heavy metal frame was unlike compact and better crafted smartphones from other major brands.

By retaining that same design, Sony does not seem to be prepared to deliver a better smartphone with the Xperia XZ3. It is likely to be a lower-end variant of the Xperia XZ2 Premium and will offer the fingerprint sensor at that strange location.

The leaked image further reveals that the Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ2 Premium will be almost identical. One of the major difference will be that Xperia XZ3 will have single rear camera while the XZ2 Premium had dual rear camera setup. The fingerprint sensor will be in the dead center of the back panel, which might not appeal to all kinds of users.

While the leak does not reveal specifications, it is safe to assume that the Xperia XZ3 will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chip. It will have a Full HD+ display with Bravia engine and might pack at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. It could be priced around $800 in the United States, making it a tough sell against smartphones like the LG G7+ ThinQ and Samsung Galaxy S9+.
