Sony launched its flagship Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact smartphones at Mobile World Congress in February this year. The smartphones were followed by another premium device in the form of Xperia XZ2 Premium last month. Now, the Japanese company seems to have begun work on its successor, which could follow the launch of Xperia XZ3 at IFA 2018 in August.
According to new leak, the upcoming Xperia XZ3 Premium has been assigned model number H8614 which seems in line with the leaked model number H8416 assigned to Xperia XZ3. It is expected to offer major improvements over its predecessor. It is said to feature a display with a resolution of 3840 x 1920 pixels and support the taller aspect ratio of 18:9. This contradicts Sony’s recent comments where the company said that 16:9 aspect ratio provides the best viewing experience.
Sony is expected to call it a 4K UHD display even though such a display should have a resolution of 4320 x 2160 pixels in order to support 18:9 aspect ratio. The leak also reveals that the smartphone will come pre-installed with Android 9.0 when the smartphone becomes official later this year.
Other specifications suggest 6GB of RAM and return of 128GB internal storage. On the camera front, the Xperia XZ3 Premium is said to offer dual rear cameras including a 19-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel secondary camera. At the front, it will feature a 13-megapixel selfie shooter. The smartphone is expected to differ in terms of design with thinner bezels than the one seen on Xperia XZ2 Premium.
