Sony, like many other premium smartphone brands, has been struggling in the smartphone market and the company has major presence only in its home market. The company’s outgoing chief Kaz Hirai said that the company wants to stay in the smartphone business, and it plans to focus only on the mid-range and premium segment.
Sony’s premium flagship is expected to feature a 5.7-inch 4K OLED display with taller 18:9 aspect ratio and thinner bezels. The smartphone is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 845 processor accompanied by 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The rumors also suggest dual rear camera setup with one 18-megapixel sensor and another 12-megapixel sensor. The smartphone is rumored to pack a 3,420mAh battery and run Android 8.0 Oreo.
Sony, HTC and LG are trying hard to make a comeback in the competitive smartphone market. While Apple and Samsung dominate the premium segment, the competition to these traditional brands will be the Chinese smartphone makers, who are also expected to showcase new products at MWC.
