Sony set to launch a new Xperia smartphone named as Xperia ZR and codenamed as Dogo with model number C550X, according to the Xperiablog. This will be Sony’s next big release after its flagship for the year the Xperia Z, which has received mixed reviews for its performance and built. The Xperia ZR will be launched with a similar design pattern as that of the Xperia Z, and is expected to come with a glass and metal frame. It is also speculated to carry a number of impressive features, few of which are a 4.6-inch HD display with 720×1280 pixels resolution, Android Jelly Bean, and a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro chipset. The device will also feature 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD memory card support, a 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera sensor, and a 2,300mAh battery. Though uncertain, the device might measure a little thicker than 10mm and weight around 140g.
What comes as an interesting point is that like the Xperia Z, the Xperia ZR will also be rugged and come water resistant. It is expected to hold an IP55/IP58 rating, which is higher than the IP55/IP57 rating of the Xperia Z, and thus can survive up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes of duration. Recently, Samsung has also been rumored to introduce a rugged version of the Galaxy S 4.
