The basic functionality includes getting BBM notifications on your smartwatch without having to take your smartphone out of the pockets every time. You can read a message, flip through multiple messages in a particular thread, and also dismiss notifications with a swipe. You can also reply to messages from your smartwatch by either using Google Now, or choosing from a bunch of pre-defined messages. Lastly, BBM invites too will show up on your smartwatch, and you will be able to accept or decline them right there. BlackBerry hasn t revealed an exact timeframe for when it will launch BBM for Android Wear, only saying it will be available soon.
BBM, once a BlackBerry exclusive service, has since debuted on other platforms as well. Last year, the messenger was launched on Android and iOS, and it is little surprise that the company wants to extend support to the wearable platform as well. At last count, BBM had more than 91 million monthly active users and going forward there have been reports of BlackBerry working on a desktop version of the popular messenger as well.
