Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 vs Motorola Moto E: Specifications and features compared

Though Google will officially launch Android One initiative in India tomorrow, Flipkart accidentally revealed all the details of the Android One smartphone from Spice.

Though the initiative was meant to launch phones in the sub-$100 price range, Spice’s Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 is priced at Rs 6,999, which is not only more than $100, but also puts it against the popular Motorola Moto E. We compare both the smartphones on the basis of their specifications and features.

Price in India

Both the smartphones are priced at Rs 6,999, and like the Moto E, Spice’s Android One smartphone too will be exclusively available on Flipkart.

The Moto E features a 4.3-inch, which is just 0.2-inch smaller than Spice’s 4.5-inch display. As for the resolution, the Moto E’s display has a qHD resolution (960×540 pixels). Spice’s Android One smartphone, on the other hand, has a FWVGA resolution (854×480 pixels).

The Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor. The Moto E is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 dual-core processor. Both the processors are paired with 1GB of RAM.

On the storage front, both the smartphones have 4GB internal storage that can be further expanded using a microSD card.

Spice’s Android One phone has an advantage in this department as it has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, something that is absent on the Moto E. At the back both the smartphones feature a 5-megapixel camera. Without reviewing the forthcoming smartphone however, we cannot say how it compares to the Moto E’s camera.

The Moto E has the bigger battery among the two smartphones. In comparison to its 1,980mAh battery, Spice’s Android One smartphone has a 1,700mAh battery.

As you would expect from Google’s Android One initiative, the Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 runs on the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Motorola too is known for offering the latest software on its phone, and the Moto E too runs on 4.4.4 KitKat. Android One smartphones will also get regular Android updates, but Motorola too has provided them.

The Moto E has another advantage over Spice’s Android One smartphone. It boasts a nano coating inside as well as outside to protect the smartphone from the accidental splash of water.

On paper, the Moto E looks like a better product, which also gives stock Android experience with better hardware. With Motorola taking out the Android update equation out by providing timely updates, it remains to be seen if Android One smartphones have any hidden value for money to convince buyers to pick up a smartphone from a Micromax, Spice or Karbonn over an established and trustworthy brand like Motorola.
