McLaren has denied it is in acquisition talks with Apple after claims the iPhone maker was preparing a billion-pound bid for the British supercar manufacturer. The company said there were no discussions over a sale or investment from Apple. Earlier media reports said that the iPhone maker was considering buying McLaren for about 1 billion pounds. The acquisition of McLaren can accelerate Apple s automotive project. McLaren makes luxury super cars and has an advanced technology unit that develops cutting-edge electronics. Apple was rumoured to be investing and working on an electric car for several years, after Tim Cook allegedly agreed to the project the in 2015. The vehicle was reported to be electric like Tesla‘s, rather than self-driving like Google’s autonomous cars. Experts have even said Apple may be interested in buying US electric car maker Tesla. We can confirm that McLaren is not in discussion with Apple in respect of any potential investment, a spokesperson was quoted as saying. Apple rarely makes big acquisitions, recently the Cupertino-based company acquired audio group Beats Electronics for $3 billion. Apple has also invested $1 billion in the Chinese ride-hailing company Didi Chuxing.
Last year, there were rumors that Apple might launch their electric car in 2020. The report claimed that Apple wants to begin production of its electric car by 2020 and already hired close to 200 people, and is looking to hire more experts to work on robotics, technologies for battery and allied projects.
