Tecno Mobile, the smartphone brand of Chinese company Transsion has announced its camera-centric Camon series. The first smartphone in the series called Camon i has been launched at Rs 8,990.
Tecno Mobile says its key focus to India strategy this year will be ‘Camera-centric’ smartphones along with Full View display. “Camon i will play a vital role in bolstering Tecno’s India growth story,” said Lin Qin, Vice President, Transsion Holdings. Qin also added that India is one of the most important overseas markets for its future growth especially aligning with its global brand strategy.
Tecno Camon i: Specifications and Features
The smartphone features a 5.65-inch Full View IPS display with a HD+ resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and support for taller 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone features thinner top and bottom bezel and has a screen-to-body ratio of 82 percent. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737H processor clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.
On the camera front, it sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and quad LED flash. It also features a 13-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture, front LED flash and even option to use screen flash. The smartphone has a thickness of 7.75mm and weighs around 134 grams.
The Tecno Camon i has dual-SIM slot and a dedicated SD card slot. The smartphone supports WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4G VoLTE as well as ViLTE. It also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and runs HiOS based on Android 7.0 Nougat. The smartphone is supported by a 3,050mAh battery and will be available in midnight black, champagne gold and city blue colors.
Priced at Rs 8,990, Tecno is trying to target similarly priced offerings from brands like Xiaomi. Transsion Holdings is the top mobile phone vendor in Africa and it is trying to replicate its success there with localized devices for the Indian market.
iTel, one of the three brands owned by Transsion has already managed to grab second place in India’s feature phone segment. The company would be hoping to leverage its low-cost approach and distribution strategy to scale the expansion Tecno brand in India.
