Tesla to enter India before Model 3 productions begin, Elon Musk confirms

Even though Tesla hasn’t finalized dates for its official entry into the Indian market, but CEO Musk says it will happen before the production of its new Model 3 car begins.


Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla will be entering the Indian market before the production of the Model 3. He also added that the exact date in this regard hasn t been finalized as yet. Last week Tesla announced that its latest electric car, Model 3, will be available in India as well. Even as pre-orders for the car have already begun, productions are expected to begin in 2017 and deliveries will be start towards the end of next year. Musk had also confirmed that Tesla will be setting up a pan-India supercharger network for the Model 3. The Model 3 is the most affordable electric car from Tesla so far. Price of the Model 3 starts from $35,000, which is approximately Rs 23 lakhs. In India, it is likely to cost slightly more considering hefty import duties for cars. But it is widely speculated that the government may relax norms for importing electric cars. It is worth pointing out that the Indian government along with state governments are taking measures to boost adoption of electric vehicles in the country. In fact, the government has plans to make India a 100 percent electric vehicle nation by 2030.


According to reports, the Model 3 has seen an overwhelming response from customers with total orders reaching 276,000. According to reports, the Model 3 orders have hit $10 billion in first 36 hours.

Tesla claims the Model 3 can run up to 215 miles or 346 kilometers on full charge. It plans to launch different variants for the car with base model is claimed to be capable of hitting 0-60Mph in just under six seconds. The car comes with storage space at the rear and front. The car will also come with the autopilot safety features available in Tesla s existing models. The autopilot feature allows the car to steer itself and avoid collisions.
