To decongest the NH-8 connecting Delhi and Manesar, the road transport ministry has offered the stretch for the country’s first ‘Metrino’ project, EconomicTimes reports. As seen in above photo, the pods look something out of The Jetsons, and can accommodate up to five people. As mentioned above, these pods are suspended from an overhead network that is around 5-10m above ground, and each pod is capable of travelling at up to 50kmph. Once you get into a pod, you can select your destination using either the touch control panel or by voice commands. As per the company’s website, Metrino has a capacity of ferrying 6,000 passengers per direction every hour, and cost and time of per-kilometer development of the network is 50 times less than underground metro.
