YouTuber Shaizor posted a OnePlus 5 water test video on his channel Techno Unboxing. The video begins with Shaizor opening a new OnePlus 5 unit, and showing that the smartphone is fully functional. He then places the OnePlus 5 in a bowl and starts a 60 seconds timer. Shaizor starts pouring water in the bowl until the OnePlus 5 is fully submerged. As the timer continues, he tries using the OnePlus 5 but the touch remains unresponsive under water. However there are no display glitches during the process.
After 60 seconds, he picks up the smartphone and wipes it clean. There are still no display glitches on the OnePlus 5, the touch is responsive and even the home button works fine. He then tests the camera to see if the lenses are damaged but they work fine too. In this water test, the OnePlus 5 does pass it successfully, however this isn t confirmation that the smartphone is completely waterproof. The OnePlus 5 was expected to come with IP68 rating at least for water and dust resistance, but Lau said that this was avoided as it would make the smartphone bulkier. He also said that water resistance isn t a determining factor for consumers in choosing a smartphone. Although the OnePlus 5 does not come with certified water resistance, it does appear to have good waterproof capability.
