The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 was launched in China last month with a total of five variants being detailed, including three variants with 6GB RAM, and a limited edition with 8GB of RAM and a ceramic unibody build. The phone is the successor to the Xiaomi Mi MIX, which was launched last year as a sort of proof-of-concept, and never saw an official launch in India. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, along with 6GB of RAM and 64, 128, 256GB of storage, although as mentioned, just the 128GB variant has been launched in India. The highlight of the phone is its design and screen. The phone has a 6-inch full HD+ IPS-LCD screen with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels, and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection. Like many phones launched this year, the Mi MIX 2 has an 18:9 screen aspect ratio, and a screen-to-body ratio of over 80 percent. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Review
The screen of the phone occupies practically the entirety of the front, with an edge-to-edge design that leaves very little non-screen space at the top and sides. The bottom of the phone has a small strip where the 5-megapixel front camera can be found. However, the awkward position at the bottom of the phones means that you have to flip the phone over while taking selfies, or adjust your view when on video calls.
The phone has a metal frame and a glass rear panel, which also has the fingerprint sensor and 12-megapixel single-lens rear camera. The phone features the same sensor as the primary one on the Xiaomi Mi 6, another phone that didn t see an official launch in India.
The Mi MIX 2 comes with dual-SIM connectivity, MIUI based on Android Nougat, and USB Type-C for charging, data transfers and audio. Making sure everything is ticking is a 3,400mAh battery, along with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 compatibility, and a QC3.0 charger out-of-the-box. However, there s no expandable storage or 3.5mm jack on the phone, which might be a concern for some users. ALSO READ: OnePlus 5 Review
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 in India was confirmed to launch in India back at the official launch event in China, and has been priced to take on the popular OnePlus 5 and Honor 8 Pro. It marks Xiaomi s return to the flagship segment after over a year, with the last top-spec phone to be launched being the Xiaomi Mi 5. With this launch, Xiaomi seems to be intent on sending a message that the company is ready to be taken seriously with its premium products, and doesn t want to be classified only as a manufacturer of quality budget smartphones such as the immensely popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.
