Amazon’s third-generation Alexa-powered ‘Echo Dot’ speaker with overhauled design is reportedly on its way. According to The Verge, the new Echo Dot could be released within the next couple months. Amazon hasn’t refreshed the device since September 2016.
The alleged third-generation Amazon Echo Dot speaker has been spotted in leaked photos online. The images by AFTV news were first published by French publications Numerama and FrAndroid.
As seen in the alleged images, Amazon is making some significant design changes to Echo Dot. It can be seen taking more curvy design approach and a fabric frame inspired from the Google Home Mini, which is the main competitor to the Echo Dot. The image showcases the top of speaker having four buttons for volume up/down, muting the mic, and triggering Alexa.
It is also been reported that alleged new Echo Dot is currently being tested by Amazon employees. The Alexa-powered smart Wi-Fi speaker is said to have “superior sound quality” compared to the current model of Echo Dot. The speaker is the most affordable in the Echo range of smart speakers.

Last month, Amazon slashed price of its Echo devices in India. Amazon Echo Dot, the cheapest Echo smart speaker in the lineup, received a temporary price cut of Rs 400. It had become available on Amazon India for Rs 4,099 as opposed to its launch price of Rs 4,499. Even the Amazon Echo had received a temporary price cut, the smart speaker that sits in the middle of Amazon’s entry-level and premium offering got Rs 1,000 discount, but it is now again selling at its original price of Rs 9,999. The Google Home series also sells in India at similar prices, but is sold on Flipkart as well as at many offline locations.
