Folks at our parent publication BGR Classic have obtained a render from third-party smartphone case manufacturer Ghostek. The company is quite well known for making accessories for iPhones and Samsung s smartphones. The renders developed by the casemaker allegedly show the Galaxy S8 wrapped in one of the company s waterproof cases. BGR says it is not unusual for third-party case makers to have details of upcoming devices, which incidentally helps them keep the cases ready in time for the official launch. The publication also cites a source saying that these renders are based on data acquired from factories manufacturing Samsung s devices. Looking at the render, the overall design of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is indeed in line with what has generally leaked so far. The look is not very unlike last year s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, but the one big difference is the missing physical home button up front. This lends credibility to previous leaks about Samsung opting for a fingerprint sensor that is embedded in the display itself. The display itself is curved at both edges, which is on expected lines. Samsung is likely to launch the Galaxy S8 in two variants with different display sizes, just like it did with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. However, it is unknown whether both the models will come with the curved edge display or one would still feature the flat display like the Galaxy S7.
Samsung Galaxy S8 specifications
As per leaks, the Galaxy S8 is expected to be powered by either a Snapdragon 835 SoC or Exynos 8895 chipset depending upon the region. It is likely to feature 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and storage options of 128GB and 256GB.
For photography, the smartphone is widely expected to feature a dual-camera setup at the back — one 16-megapixel RGB sensor, and an 8-megapixel monochrome sensor. For selfies, there will be a snapper up front with auto-focus capabilities.
The rest of the rumored features include 4,200mAh battery with wireless charging capabilities, heart-rate sensor, water and dust resistance, and connectivity options like 4G with VoLTE, and Bluetooth 5.0. On the software front, the Galaxy S8 could run Android Nougat 7.1.1 out-of-the-box. ALSO READ: Samsung s Bixby digital assistant, Samsung Pay Mini app spotted on company s website
There have been quite a few contradictory reports about when we will get to see Samsung s flagship device. The latest rumor suggests that the company might not skip MWC 2017 after all. It could unveil the Galaxy S8 next month, but the smartphone is likely to be available sometime around late March or early April. Samsung is believed to aiming at selling around 60 million units of the Galaxy S8 this year, which is much higher than what it managed with the Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy S7 last year.
