The Apple iPhone 8 has topped the best-selling smartphone list for May 2018 with market share of 2.4 percent, according to a Counterpoint Research report. In the month of April 2018, Samsung outshined Apple with the Galaxy S9+ coming on top, but during the month of May, Samsung sales were weak in Europe, and steady in the US. The iPhone X accounted for 2.3 percent market share, making it the third best-selling smartphone for the month. While the top three spots have been taken by premium smartphones. Surprisingly, the fourth spot is taken by an entry-level smartphone from Xiaomi – the Redmi 5A. It had a market share of 2.2 percent. Counterpoint believes that Apple’s success can be attributed to the new iPhone 8 ad push, including ‘How to shoot on iPhone’ campaign that highlighted the smartphone’s camera capabilities. Talking about the rest of the smartphones, the Galaxy S9 takes the sixth spot with 2.1 percent market share, the Huawei P20 Lite with 1.4 percent market share taking the seventh spot. The Vivo X21, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Oppo A83 take the eighth, ninth and tenth spots with market share of 1.4 percent, 1.3 percent and 1.2 percent respectively.
