Reliance Industries today hosted its 41st AGM where it had a bunch of very interesting announcements. Chairman Mukesh Ambani kicked things off by revealing just how well the JioPhone was doing. 25 million Indians were now using the JioPhone, and the company today also announced the next-generation JioPhone 2. Ambani kicked things off with the announcement that JioPhone now has over 25 million users across the country. This is quite an impressive number for a smart feature phone that launched about a year back. Reliance now aims to have 100 million Indians using the JioPhone. Reliance JioPhone 2
The company today also announced the next-generation JioPhone 2. The new smart feature phone comes with a bigger 2.4-inch display, and a QWERTY keypad. We can t help but see the resemblance with BlackBerry from the yesteryears. The JioPhone 2 is priced at Rs 2,999, and will be going on sale from August 15.
Reliance JioPhone exchange offer
The JioPhone was launched last year with an offer, wherein one could return their phone after three years and get back the whole amount they paid. Today, Ambani announced the Jio Monsoon Hungama offer that lets you exchange your old JioPhone for a new one. In essence, you can exchange your old JioPhone for a new one for just Rs 501. This offer will go live on July 21.
Reliance JioPhone new apps
Another interesting announcement at the AGM was the support for three popular apps on JioPhone. These apps include YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook. Despite the restrictive platform, the apps offer the basic functionalities you expect off them. The new apps will be rolled out on August 15.

Quite simply, the biggest announcement at today s AGM. After telecom, Reliance is all set to shake up the broadband industry in India. The company today announced JioGigaFiber aimed at residences, small and large businesses. The high-speed broadband will enable easy watching of Ultra HD movies, making HD video conference calls, and enjoying smart home solutions. Registrations for JioGigaFiber will begin from August 15.
For smart home solutions, Jio will first set up a GigaRouter at your home. These routers are able to offer download and upload speeds at Gbps. This router will also offer Wi-Fi coverage at one s home.
Jio GigaTV set-top-box
Next, the company will set up at GigaTV set-top-box to your existing television set. This box will let you watch over 600 channels, and access a range of online content. These online content will be available in 4K quality. Lastly, this also enables voice commands on your TV, and you can give these commands via the Jio remote.
Jio GigaTV calling
Adding to the TV s smart capabilities is a new feature called GigaTV calling. With this feature you can place a video call to any television that is connected to JioGigaFiber. Additionally, you can also call any smartphone or tablet connected to any network.
Jio Virtual Reality
JioGigaFiber is also fast enough to support 4K quality virtual reality experience. With a compatible VR headset, one can enjoy 360-degrees content from the comforts of one s home.
Jio Smart Home
Along with JioGigaFiber, the company is today also promoting a future with connected homes. Jio will be providing a range of smart accessories for homes including smart speakers, smart plug, outdoor/indoor cameras, TV camera, smoke or gas leak sensors, door sensors, and panic buttons to name a few. You will be able to control all these smart home accessories via the MyJio smartphone app. The company claims that its engineers will be able to set up JioGigaFiber and smart home accessories under an hour.
